Foley sound

On the 18th of November I learned about Foley sound. Foley sound is sound that is created by a sound engineer to imitate another sound - such as sizzling bacon imitating raindrops. Foley sound is useful as it can create realistic and effective sounds while simultaneously saving costs as so sound effects need to be bought. this sound can add a new feeling to a scene - such as the destruction of a pepper turning an arm strain into a cringe-inducing bone break or the slapping of a watermelon turning a tense fight scene into a slapstick comedy. Sound generally goes unnoticed but it is very important to how a scene turns out   Foley sound is carried out generally in professional recording studios by sound artists who are trained in how to utilise normal objects to create realistic sound

Shots demonstration

Image
In this short film I have demonstrated a litany of different shot types in order to showcase all the different ways a shot can be constructed in order to give new meaning to a scene For example I opened the film with a high angle establishing shot, to not only establish the room but to also demonstrate the mise-en-scene I have set up (All computers deactivated and all lights off except for the one in the very centre) this mise-en-scene and lighting focuses the viewer on the computer and paints it as an object of importance.

Kuleshov effect

Here is my Kuleshov task. I have used filters and different events occurring after a central beginning to change the meaning of the opening smile scene in retrospect For example the theme of the shot has been changed entirely by the second one which changes it into a western style gunfight instead of a friendly greeting like in the first one Or by changing it into a tense, murderer's smile by following it with a slow, methodical tracking shot of the gun
