Initial ideas for final music video: Yankee and The Brave (ep. 4)

The video idea I have had is a fight scene set to the song "Yankee and The Brave (ep. 4)" by Run The Jewels - the video in question will be a narrative, tongue in cheek postmodernist pastiche parody of 80s and 90s Kung Fu and samurai movies as well as combining it with tropes of school movies. The song I have chosen is an anthem as it is made by the radical progressive band Run The Jewels and is the famous debut single on their 4th album RTJ4 which released in 2020, the song is one of their most successful and is popular amongst fans and non-fans alike and remains a prolific protest song to this day due to it's criticism of police brutality I plan to use the connotations of Yankee and The Brave - that it is a parody of Saturday Morning Cartoons which ran adjacent to the 80s and 90s media I will be basing the video on. The video will be composed of two parts - the intro, which will be parodic of consumer culture and will be me and Anton beginning to watch the rest of the ...

Textual analysis of music videos

As a task, Mr Welch has given us a playlist of music videos to analyse and how they represent things: 1. All Caps by MF DOOM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSJeHDlhYls In this video the style of a 1950s golden age pop art comic is used to pay tribute to the comics such as Marvel and DC who inspired DOOM in his childhood to create music and adopt his stage persona: That of a stereotypical comic book villain, DOOM himself is represented in the video as a hulking scientific mutant - a prototypical character archetype of the day inspired by characters like the Hulk or The Thing The song and video complement the "virtual band" esque aesthetic of DOOM - maintaining the illusion that he is this fantasy character presented to us in the video 2. Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyHNuVaZJ-k This video by Gorillaz is chock full of representations, for example: The outside world in the video is represented as drab, lifeless and chaotic - as shown by the ...
