Initial ideas for final music video: Yankee and The Brave (ep. 4)

 The video idea I have had is a fight scene set to the song "Yankee and The Brave (ep. 4)" by Run The Jewels - the video in question will be a narrative, tongue in cheek postmodernist pastiche parody of 80s and 90s Kung Fu and samurai movies as well as combining it with tropes of school movies.


The song I have chosen is an anthem as it is made by the radical progressive band Run The Jewels and is the famous debut single on their 4th album RTJ4 which released in 2020, the song is one of their most successful and is popular amongst fans and non-fans alike and remains a prolific protest song to this day due to it's criticism of police brutality


I plan to use the connotations of Yankee and The Brave - that it is a parody of Saturday Morning Cartoons which ran adjacent to the 80s and 90s media I will be basing the video on.


The video will be composed of two parts - the intro, which will be parodic of consumer culture and will be me and Anton beginning to watch the rest of the music video on VHS. while the rest of the bulk of the video will be composed of a fight scene in the main hall between the in-movie characters played by me and my brother as we wear school uniforms and fight with rulers and metersticks and other school supplies such as paper airplanes and pens.


I will probably include intertextual references to classic martial arts movies like "Enter The Dragon" and even modern ones like "The Raid" as they will no doubt inspire parts of the song.


Shot wise I will use wide-shots and long takes in order to exemplify the action and also pay tributes to martial arts movies which 


Making this video will be fairly easy as it will only require me and my brother to choreograph a fight and perform it in the hall of the school.


To pay further tribute to the action movies that inspired it I will have stylized subtitles on the bottom (in English) and the top (in Japanese) which will react with the song to not only add to the impact of the song but also pay tribute to Japanese action movies like Zatoichi which inspired it.


The video will have multiple stages each paying tribute to a different part of cinema: The first will be the metersticks which will pay tribute to samurai movies like Zatoichi and Ran, the second will be rulers which will pay tribute to famous knife fights in movies such as The Raid 2 and Kill Bill then the final phase will be bare fists, which will be inspired by brawling films like John Wick and Nobody
